Using Blogs
I think now more than ever students like to use the computer to do research, write papers, email friends, and just browse search engines like Google and Ask Jeeves. One way that I think I could use blogs in my teaching would be to give extra credit to those students who demonstrate that they can blog certain specified contents. This would encourage students to blog and also help them learn my topic in more detail.
Mets poet
One posting I found in the New York Times entitled A Poet of the Mets Versifies of Gloom I found to be particularly interesting. It talks about a 39 year old die hard Mets fan named Frank Messina who is also a poet. As you may or may not know the New York Mets have lost 10 of there last 14 games and are on the verge of not making the playoffs. But like all loyal sports fans Messina goes to every home game, and still writes poetry about his beloved Mets. America could use more loyal friends like Mr. Messina.
